Welcome to the Uckfield Art Group's website. Our ethos is based on our motto - ‘Painting for Pleasure'.
We are an informal group of around 25 regular members who meet regularly to enjoy and develop our art. There are members from all abilities and ages (16+). We celebrate successes and although we have no formal tutor we use the expertise within the group to help those who need advice or encouragement.
The group meets every Tuesday from 7-9pm in Uckfield's Luxford Centre, at the top of the Luxford Carpark, just off Uckfield High Street. Members bring their own supplies and work on their own painting and drawing projects in the convivial and supportive atmosphere. We hold two main exhibitions per year to showcase our work.
In 2023 our summer exhibition was on Saturday, June 3. It was a great success with a steady stream of art enthusiasts coming through the doors. Our refreshments were popular too, with very little left to take home.
There was a tie for the semi-annual Tom Broad Award; Sam Bromley's "Sleep Tight, Koala" and Denise Revell's A quick snack" received the same number of votes so they will split the honour of taking home the award statue for three months each until our winter show coming up on Saturday 11 November.
The award was created in honour of a long term member Tom, after his death about ten years ago. He and his wife Nellie Broad, who predeceased him, had helped establish the Uckfield Art Group in the 60s.
For more details about upcoming exhibitions see the Notices and Contacts page. If you wish to know more about joining the group see our About Us page.

Group Projects
Big Picture projects
We have undertaken Big Picture projects where we take a well-known painting (or photo) and divide it up into sections. Members recreate each section on a larger scale and then the whole picture is reassembled. Click the side arrows to see more.
The exercise enables communication in order to get the sections to match and has been enjoyed by all participants.

One of our group still life challenges was to create pictures on the theme of "The Garden Shed".
